Watch Bridge Collapse In Baltimore, Search And Rescue Underway
This was something out of Hollywood, without a doubt. A bridge collapse in Baltimore occurred in the early morning hours of Tuesday, March 26th, after the bridge was hit by a cargo ship. Extremely scary as crews are in the midst of a very large search and rescue mission. The bridge is known in the area as the Francis Scott Key Bridge, if this is part of your morning commute, we recommend avoiding the area due to obvious road closures but also to allow our first responders to access the area first during the search and rescue.
Bridge Collapse In Baltimore Video
Our thoughts and prayers go out to those who may have been directly involved or affected by this tragedy. It’s very scary. We’re sending prayers to our first responders as well, who are involved in the search and rescue efforts. Below, see the initial video from Fox 29 in Philadelphia. Below that you will be able to see the live stream that was going from the Baltimore Harbor that contains the impact and destruction in better quality.
Construction started on the bridge in August of 1972. It was opened in the spring of 1977. It was named after the author of the Star Spangled Banner, Francis Scott Key. According to Maryland.gov, “estimated cost of $110 million, represented the best alternative because it allowed for more traffic lanes and carried lower operating and maintenance costs than a tunnel.”

What Happened?
It appears from the video above that a large cargo ship strikes the bridge, you can see it on the left side of the screen, which then immediately causes the collapse of the bridge. This portion of the road is I-695 in Baltimore, Maryland, over the Patapsco River. This is more commonly known as the Francis Scott Key Bridge.
There is a live stream going on right now in which you can actually rewind and see the moment the large cargo ship struck the bridge. It looks like there were construction lights flashing on the bridge at the time of the impact. Click the video below to be able to watch the stream.
Once again, search and rescue are ongoing.
