Well, 2023 was an eventful year. It’s always good to look back at some of the craziest, funniest moments that took place over the course of a year. The folks at WSLS10 provided us with a rundown of the best viral videos of 2023 according to them.
Best Viral Videos of 2023
So, It’s hard to quantify how much takes place in a year. And, with the growth of social media videos are going viral on a daily basis. The amount of popular videos through TikTok, Reels and other social media sites makes it hard to select only a few. The people at WSLS10 gave us a pretty good selection! In any event, a couple of these videos we actually discussed on our show this year. There was the dog in Slovakia that was captured behind the wheel of a car. Traffic cams captured the image and it took the Internet by storm. Another one that made the list that we covered was a man who saved his dog from a Kangaroo that was trying to drown it.
There was a paddleboarder who recorded himself while his board was knocked by a whale. And then, a marathon runner made a wrong turn and ended up losing a race because of it.
Best Viral Videos 0f 2023 Local to Our Listeners
Two of the videos in their compilation are local to our listeners. One is of the police officer in Boston who went viral for going down a local slide. He suffered minor injuries but ultimately was okay. We covered that story early this year and you can check out our podcast to hear what we had to say! Another one is local to Detroit. A kid at a Detroit Red Wings game captured the hearts of fans when the camera man continued showing him on the jumbotron. Fans erupted every time this kid, who was at his first game ever, made an appearance. You can find that one at the end of their compilation.
We are excited to see what 2024 has for us. We can only imagine the crazy videos that will be made in the coming year.
These 8 Movies Turn 20 in 2024
2004 was a fantastic year for films across all genres. The ten highest-grossing films in the world that year include Shrek 2, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Spider-Man 2, The Incredibles, The Passion of the Christ, The Day After Tomorrow, Meet the Fockers, Troy, Shark Tale, and Ocean’s Twelve. Though the majority of the films selected below didn’t make the top ten world box office, we included hits that are either long-forgotten or classic gems.
The Best of 2004
In 2004, there were a lot of films in the romantic genre that have set a precedent in its category. The Notebook, 13 Going on 30, and 50 First Dates all premiered this year. The early 2000s would be nothing without apocalyptic movies about the future, with films like The Day After Tomorrow and I, Robot. Family-fun films also were in abundance in 2004, with The Polar Express, Napoleon Dynamite, National Treasure, and The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie.
Wes Anderson, Hayao Miyazaki, Peter Segal, Sam Raimi, and Steven Soderbergh all had amazing offerings this year. Anderson released his fourth film, The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou. Hayao Miyazaki’s seventh Studio Ghibli film, Howl’s Moving Castle, remains one of our top three films of all time by the director. Segal directed the Drew Barrymore and Adam Sandler romantic comedy 50 First Dates this year, with another Sandler film the year before: Anger Management. Meanwhile, Sam Raimi made his last good Spider-Man film with the sequel. Soderbergh’s Ocean’s Twelve wasn’t nearly as awesome as the first installment, but we found ourselves thoroughly entertained when the heist flick came out twenty years ago. No matter what type of movie is your go-to, 2004 has a movie out there for every walk of life that we find ourselves going back to today.
Take a look below at our top eight picks of the best movies that came out in 2004:
