‘National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation’-Inspired Bar Coming to Michigan
“National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation” is a classic. Who doesn’t love the hilarious 1989 comedy film? Now, a holiday pop-up bar inspired by “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation” is coming to Michigan. That’s a pretty unique idea, right?
Yes, you read that correctly. You could experience a pop-up bar that takes you back to the Chevy Chase flick.
Griswold’s Hideaway will set up shop in the basement of the Bandit Tavern. It will open right after Thanksgiving. If you haven’t heard of Bandit Tavern & Hideaway, that’s because it’s new. It just opened last week on Main Street in Royal Oak. “Housed in the historic B&C Grocery building in Royal Oak, Bandit Tavern & Hideaway invites you to embark on a culinary adventure that celebrates the spirit of the open road, Southern flavors, & cherished memories,” Bandit Tavern & Hideaway explains on their official website. “Southern-style cooking with a few nods to some favorite dishes from past partners, promising a journey of flavors that will have you coming back for more.”
Meanwhile, the Hideaway bar is downstairs. The bar’s website calls it, “Royal Oak’s newest place to gather & party with friends. Nestled below Bandit Tavern & Hideaway. Live music Fridays & Saturdays, VIP areas, & drink specials.” This space will also be a great spot for themed pop-up bars, such as the “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation” bar. “We’re looking forward to sharing a new experience in Royal Oak built on southern and Midwest hospitality while providing an atmosphere that feels like a getaway,” Kelly VenderEyk, operating partner and general manager of Bandit, told Fox 2 Detroit.
So far, the folks behind the Hideaway haven’t described what to expect from Griswold’s Hideaway, but we’re hoping for some festive drinks and “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation”-style decorations.
