WRIF first started broadcasting true rock ‘n’ roll to the Motor City on On Feb. 14, 1971, and we’ve never looked back!
It’s been an honor to rock with you for the past 50 years, and we look forward to the next 50.
Let’s look back on these key events and happenings in Detroit and around the world in the year 2008!

In June, the Red Wings won their 11th Central Division title, sixth Presidents’ Trophy and fifth Clarence S. Campbell Bowl. They also won the Stanley Cup.

In May, the Pistons finished the regular season with a 59-23 record. Detroit advanced to the Eastern Conference Finals, but lost to the Boston Celtics in the Eastern Conference Finals.

The Detroit Sports Car Challenge presented by Bosch was held at the Belle Isle temporary street circuit on August 30th. It was won by the Andretti Green Racing team.

The 2008 Detroit Indy Grand Prix presented by Firestone was held on Aug. 31 on Belle Isle. The race was won by Justin Wilson.

In September, the Tigers finished their season 74–88.

In December, the Lions finished their season without winning one game.

The average Cost of new house was $238,880.

The U.S. government gave the go ahead to the production and marketing of foods coming from cloned animals.

With the economy collapsing, President Bush and the House housed moved a $150 billion stimulus package.
Anne Erickson started her radio career shortly after graduating from Michigan State University and has worked on-air in Detroit, Flint, Toledo, Lansing and beyond. As someone who absolutely loves rock, metal and alt music, she instantly fell in love with radio and hasn’t looked back.
