Synyster Gates Talks Tom Morello, Glenn Tipton
Avenged Sevenfold’s “End of the World” tour with Prophets of Rage might just be the biggest rock tour this summer, and a lot of it has to do with both bands being guitar powerhouses.
This isn’t lost on A7X lead guitarist Synyster Gates who recently talked with WRIF’s Meltdown and touched on just what it means to tour with the likes of Prophets of Rage guitarist Tom Morello:
“He is literally one of my favorite guitar players of all time. I think he is absolutely innovative, and this isn’t something I’m just saying just because I’m on tour with him…It’s getting to the point where he’s obviously into the legacy chapter of his career, but we’re kinda getting there, too. A lot of people are telling me that. ‘Two old school icons.’ It’s pretty crazy to be told that, so I’m trying to live in this moment where we’re bringing relevant music out on tour…and it feels really, really special to be a part of that. Obviously, as a guitar player to bring that to fans, I’m stoked to evangelize the instrument, and how better to do that than to be playing with Tom Morello every night, one of the great innovators of our time.”
Of course, another guitar-heavy band that has been making news as of late is Judas Priest, whose rhythm guitarist Glenn Tipton revealed he’s been battling Parkinson’s disease for the past decade and won’t be joining the band on tour this month. Gates reflected on that news, which stunned the rock world:
“It’s really, really sad…they just have to find a new position in the band for him. It’s not like he’s done and out of the mix. They’re still going to make music together. I mean, he’s a lesser-known part, but the heart and soul of the band and such a great player. They’ll figure it out. It’s heartbreaking, but life goes on, and it’s really cool that they’re not moving on from him.”
