Rumors have been swirling that the LA Rams have been keen on trading Matthew Stafford, even though he just won them a Super Bowl a year ago. This isn’t super surprising, as the Rams haven’t been known for their loyalty.

But, as of this week, it appear Stafford is still with the Rams, and he’s have another $57 million fully guaranteed going into the upcoming season.

However, things could have gone very different. And, there is still a possibility of that.

  • The Rams were looking to trade, sources say

According to Profootballtalk.nbcsports.com, “the Rams would have (we’re told) welcomed the opportunity to trade Stafford.” They add that there’s also still speculation that Stafford will retire, even though he has come out and said that won’t happen.

  • Here's what got in the way of a Stafford trade

Again, our sources at Profootballtalk.nbcsports.com state that, “If Aaron Rodgers hadn’t decided to join the Jets, Stafford could have become the Plan B, if he would have been willing to go to New York.” It’s crazy to think that Stafford could have become a Jet, just a few years after leaving Detroit.

  • The future

Chances are, Stafford will stay in LA for the upcoming season. But the Aaron Rodgers and Jets deal is far from complete, multiple sources say, so there’s a possibility it won’t go through. However, it does look like a better bet that Rodgers will head to the Jets, and Stafford will stay in LA.

  • Packers rumors

Of course, there are also rumors that Stafford could go to the Packers. Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network says this: “The #Packers and #Jets continue to negotiate on an Aaron Rodgers trade but have not yet agreed to trade terms, per sources. Green Bay isn’t looking for multiple first-round picks like other QBs (Russell Wilson, Matthew Stafford) have commanded in recent years. Talks ongoing.” Read more on that below.
