  • zac brown once fixed my phone for a selfie

Yes, that did happen. I was in Nashville for Kid Rock’s debut Comedy Jam for his charities. At the after party at the bar, Rock introduced me to the country legend. We talked briefly and I asked him if I could get a quick picture. Here’s the thing, I may have had a few whisky’s by this time of the night, and Zac may be sober. I pulled out my phone to snap the picture and I couldn’t get it to work right. I shut it off and tried it again. Still nothing. I was about to give up when Zac told me to give him my phone….which he fixed in like, two seconds. I had somehow put it on panoramic. I’ll say this, the country artists I’ve met have been very nice, Zac included!

It’s not the best selfie, but it comes with a fun story.

  • I've announced several rock star deaths on the air.

After three decades on the air, I realize I’ve announced some pretty significant rock star/celebrity deaths. I recall announcing the death of Kurt Cobain back in 1994 on the radio. Neil Peart, Eddie Van Halen, even Michael Jackson. I remember announcing that one and I kinda chuckled a little bit because it just didn’t seem real.

On the night “Dimebag” Darrell was killed, I received a call from a friend around 11pm. But back then I didn’t want to say anything about that on the air because it wasn’t like it is today. Now, news travels fast. In 2004, I didn’t want to say anything until I knew for sure. We did confirm it around midnight and played a lot of Pantera.

  • I've owned a Harley Davidson since 1992

I bought my first Harley in 1992. It was a “basket-case” 1971 Sportster. After I got it, we took it right to a friend’s house where we tore it apart. It was just an engine and frame in the middle of my friend’s garage. We painted it and put on new tires, among other things.

Another friend of mine told me something I’ll never forget. He told me that riding a Harley “Would get in your blood” I didn’t believe him at all, but it has. I’ve owned a Harley ever since.

  • Jon Bon Jovi once sat on my Harley and signed the gas tank.

Speaking of that first Harley, I rode it to a Bon Jovi concert in 1993. I was backstage getting ready for the meet and greet, when the record rep suggested I go and get it from the parking lot. He said it would be cool to have Jon sign it. In my mind I was thinking “I don’t want Jon Bon Jovi signing my Harley” Well, he did sign it, and it’s very cool!

  • I once interviewed Head from KORN twice in one afternoon

I interviewed Head from KORN on the 29th of July, 2017. If you recall, it was a week after Chester Bennington took his life. Head had posted on his socials about his friend’s death.  He wrote a long post about the love he had for his friend. But right in the middle of his post, he mentioned something about Chester being “selfish” for doing what he did. The media pounced!

Our conversation happened around 4pm. After our talk was finished, he asked me where this was going to post. I told him on my podcast, and that it would get picked up by rock aggregates around the world. He said” Can I listen to it and if I don’t like it can we do it again?” I told him that we could.

He walked around the backstage area at Pine Knob for 15/20 minutes listening on ear buds. He came back and asked if we could do it again, because he said he had just woken up and he sounded tired. Plus, he wanted to redo the Chester part. I agreed and asked him several different questions, along with the Chester question, edited it together, while taking out the Chester stuff from the first interview, and made it into a 35/40 minute conversation.

Really, one of the best interviews I’ve ever done.
