Seeing an outdoor concert in the Midwest is like a treat, especially after a long, cold winter. We’re holed up for six months, so the time to see outdoor shows is short in our area. I for one, love them! There’s nothing like a nice, warm summertime concert whether it’s at Pine Knob, The Michigan Lottery Amphitheater, or some of the other outdoor festivals. Off the top of my head, the Uncle Sam Jam in Woodhaven is always a blast! Last year the WRIF show of Buckcherry and Jackyl was one of the highlights of the summer.
To me, I’m not a fan of being inside to see a concert in the warmer months. During the winter, I’m all in, but not when the weather breaks. I mean, here we never know when that might be. There could be a show scheduled for mid-October and it could be snowing outside. We don’t know until showday. Hell, half the time opening day is a layered-up jacket day and that’s in April!
One of my most memorable outdoor concerts happened in September of 2020. You might recall that we were in the middle of a pandemic. Metallica, always thinking outside the box, decided to put on a drive-in theater concert across the country. That summer went by with zero concerts, so it was great to hang out with other like-minded rock fans and jam out to the band. The one I saw took place at Canterbury Village in Auburn Hills. We were blessed with great weather, an awesome-sounding and looking show, and an excuse to get out of the house for a night.
Below are some of the outdoor concerts I’m looking forward to. Most are at Pine Knob, which seems to be where I spend half of my summer sometimes. Keep in mind that there’s some local festivals that haven’t been announced yet as of this writing.
I’ll see you guys at some of these shows this year!
