Every mile of this eight mile Ruck or as civilians call it, a hike with a backpack, they stop and honor a fallen Veteran.

The Veterans Connected Ruck to Live 2023 is coming up on September 23rd.

This is such a great event! The Ruck starts out at 7am at the Millpond in Brighton, MI.  They’ll have two courses, one eight mile and one one mile.  The eight mile will stop every mile to honor a fallen hero. Some carry 22 lbs in their ruck to bring more meaning to the event.  The one mile will have multiple parts. They’ll have a tribute wall that will have every military personnel in Michigan that has lost their lives to suicide.  They’ll also have two educational pieces, the American flag and the meaning of the stars, stripes and the sea of blue and an educational piece on the Pledge of Allegiance, what it means and it’s original intent.

And after the event, they will serve lunch to all the participants.

Here’s a little history of this great group. Veterans Connected was formed in 2019 to Leave No Veteran Behind, as they found 27% Veterans were not eligible for any assistance.  To date they’ve provided over $500,000 to Detroit area Veterans and their families, but the demand has grown and they need help from corporations and private donors.  You can go to their website at Veterans Connected donate page to help them make a difference. Not one board member gets paid for anything. They are a volunteer organization, so all the proceeds can go to help, not overhead.
