There were a couple of firsts for me as I saw Avenged Sevenfold last night at Pine Knob.

-First, I’m not sure if I’ve watched an entire A7X concert. The last time I saw them onstage was in 2017 during their shortened set opening for Metallica at Comerica Park.

-Secondly, I can’t recall the last time I went to a show with no opener. Perhaps I’ve never seen anything like that on the scale of a headliner at a shed like the Knob.

-Thirdly, this is the latest outdoor show I may have ever been to in our area.

The show was KILLER! The band was supposed to go on at 8 pm. As M. Shadows said onstage they looked out and the crowd was sparse. As I was walking around backstage around 7:40 or so, I heard them say over the radios that they were pushing showtime back 15 minutes. I’ll admit, walking to my seat around 7:55 I’d have to agree. The hill was maybe half full, and that’s being nice. I went to grab another drink halfway through the set and that place was packed!

It didn’t matter. The show was a sonic and visual spectacle. The screen that they had with them was state of the art. Shadows told me after that they normally bring out about five more screens that actually move, but they couldn’t do that due to the size of the stage. They were forced to trim it back. Sounds like I need to road trip to see the whole show the way it was meant to be.

The setlist was heavy with songs off the latest album…Life It But A Dream, which was fine with me. I LOVE the new album. Of course, they tossed in classic A7X along the way.

Nice seeing all the rock fans one more time at Pine Knob…
