WRIF first started broadcasting true rock ‘n’ roll to the Motor City on On Feb. 14, 1971, and we’ve never looked back!
It’s been an honor to rock with you for the past 50 years, and we look forward to the next 50.
Let’s reflect on these major events and happenings in Detroit and around the world in the year 2003!

In April, the Red Wings won the Central Division.

In May, the Pistons wrapped up the season in first place in the Eastern Conference Finals.

Ben Wallace was voted to play in the 2003 NBA All-Star Game. He also scored Defensive Player of the Year for the second year in a row.

In September, the Tigers went 43–119 and passed the 1916 Philadelphia Athletics for the most losses in American League history. Wow!

In December, the Lions finished 4th in the NFC North Division.

The final Concorde flight took place in November.

Saddam Hussein, former President of Iraq, was captured in Tikrit by the U.S. 4th Infantry Division.

The average Cost of new house in 2003 was $246,300.

“Finding Nemo” and “The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King” were popular movies in 2003.

Apple officially launched iTunes and sold 10 million songs within four months.
Anne Erickson started her radio career shortly after graduating from Michigan State University and has worked on-air in Detroit, Flint, Toledo, Lansing and beyond. As someone who absolutely loves rock, metal and alt music, she instantly fell in love with radio and hasn’t looked back.
