It’s been an honor to rock with you for the past 50 years, and we look forward to the next 50.
Let’s remember these major events and milestones in Detroit and around the world in the year 1982!

In January of 1982, the Lions, with head coach Monte Clark, compiled a 4–5 record and finished fourth in the NFC Central Division.

In April of 1982, with head coach Scotty Robertson, the Pistons compiled a 39–43 record and finished third in the NBA’s Central Division.

In April of 1982, with coaches Wayne Maxner and Billy Dea, the Red Wings compiled a 21–47–12 record and finished sixth in the National Hockey League’s Norris Division.

In October of 1982, with manager Sparky Anderson, the Tigers compiled an 83-79 record and finished fourth in the American League East.

In November of 1982, James Blanchard was elected as Governor. He was the first Democrat elected to the office in 20 years.

The 1982 Grammy for Record of the Year went to Val Garay (producer) and Kim Carnes for “Bette Davis Eyes.”

The 1982 Grammy for Album of the Year went to Jack Douglas (producer), John Lennon and Yoko Ono (producers and artists) for “Double Fantasy.”

Some of the most popular toys from 1982 included Pinball, Houseboat, Bye Bye Dipers Doll and He-Man figures.

Famous birthdays from 1982 included LeAnn Rimes on Aug. 28 and Kelly Clarkson on April 24.
