The First Interstellar Tourism Campaign Urges Aliens To Visit This U.S. City
Attention Aliens! (Photo by Joe Raedle/Newsmakers)
What U.S. city does the very first interstellar tourism campaign urge aliens to visit? It’s definitely a surprise. Probably not the first city I would recommend to extraterrestrials.
It’s not New York. Nor is it Los Angeles. If you had the opportunity to choose where the aliens visit, you probably wouldn’t pick this place. So, which city is it?
E.T. Phone Lexington, Kentucky?
That’s right. The first interstellar tourism campaign urges aliens to visit Lexington, Kentucky. Hopefully the aliens really like college basketball. Outside of that…I’m not sure what’s in Lexington?
According to Space.com, Kentucky scientists, linguists, and scholars sent a message to the TRAPPIST-1 system, 40 light years from earth. Experts say multiple potentially habitable plants exist there. It could be where the aliens live!
VisitLEX believes they have created the very first interstellar travel advertisement. The VisitLEX tourism team partnered with the Cornett ad agency to create a clever ad campaign with some sci-fi flair.
First Interstellar Tourism Campaign Sends Aliens To Kentucky
According to Space.com, VisitLEX released a press release saying, “When the message reaches its destination in 2063, TRAPPIST-1 inhabitants will find a coded bitmap image with clues as to its origin and intent of the transmission. They’ll also see bucolic photos of the Horse Capital of the World, noting the wide-open spaces perfect for landing a spacecraft. They’ll learn why Lexington has the best foo, bourbon, and music on Earth–getting a taste via an audio recording from legendary blues musician Tee Dee Young.”
True! Valid points. I forgot about their amazing bourbon. Also, the wide open spaces would, indeed, be good for a spacecraft. Looks like I may be wrong. Maybe Lexington, Kentucky actually is the perfect place for the aliens to visit.
The whole Lexington community seems to be behind it, as they came out to support the message. Check out the tourist video they made for the campaign below! Interested in reading more? Check out the full report at Space.com!

Cort Freeman was born and raised in Metro Detroit. He was named Clarkston High School 2009 Class Clown 13 years after graduating. Totally normal thing to happen. That’s thanks to his time spent as an Intern at Comedy Central and Social Media Correspondent for The Colbert Report. Cort has done comedy across the country, both standing up and sitting down. When he’s not trying to make you laugh on-air and online, he’s probably at home enjoying his favorite shows like Seinfeld, South Park, and The Office. He’s also totally uncomfortable writing about himself in the third person. Cort enjoys writing about comedy, food, sports, and entertainment. So, basically anything and everything.
