Dennis Schröder Named Detroit Pistons’ ‘X-Factor’ for Balance of 2024-2025 NBA Season
Following the 2025 NBA trade deadline, the Detroit Pistons may have their “X-factor” in 12-year NBA legend Dennis Schröder.
According to Bleacher Report, Schröder is listed as the top player for the Pistons. The Bleacher Report’s analysis noted that Schröder averaged 3.7 assists in only 16.3 minutes across his first three games played with the Pistons. When considered against the team’s healthy players, this figure puts him second for the number of assists.“That puts a spotlight on Detroit’s lack of playmaking from sources not named Cade Cunningham. … Supplementary scoring and facilitation from Schröder could be the key to snagging the franchise’s first playoff win since the 2007-08 campaign.”
Schröder’s abilities on the hardwood stem from his career serving as a starter with the Atlanta Hawks. During the first three seasons of his career, Schröder scored as a full-time player off the bench. During the fourth year, he became a full-time starter.
After five seasons in Atlanta, he bounced from team to team, playing for the Oklahoma City Thunder, Los Angeles Lakers, Boston Celtics, Houston Rockets, Toronto Raptors, Brooklyn Nets, and the Golden State Warriors.
Currently, Schröder is scoring at the same rate as he was with the Golden State Warriors, but he’s delivering nearly two more assists and shooting a bit better from three.
Justin Grasso, who covers the Pistons for Sports Illustrated, believes that “Schröder’s value should really shine when the Pistons reach their potential postseason play. Being a young team, the Pistons’ roster lacks playoff experience. That’s where players like Tobias Harris, Tim Hardaway Jr., Malik Beasley, and now Schröder have an opportunity to really make a difference.”
