Man Loses His Eye After Killing Fly That Landed On His Face
It’s a freak accident after doing something that many of us do on an everyday basis especially during the summer months! Flies, mosquitos, and more flying insects can easily get on our nerves. We don’t want them around and if they land on us we don’t think twice about swatting at it. At least, not until now.
According to NDTV, a man in China had to have his left eyeball removed because of an infection caused by killing an insect on his face! Reports say that an hour after killing the fly on his face, his eye became red, swollen, and painful. NDTV reports he immediately sought medical attention but it was still bad enough that he had to have his left eyeball removed! According to NDTV, he was diagnosed with seasonal conjunctivitis and they had to remove the eyeball to prevent the infection from spreading to his brain.
NDTV says the fly in question was a drain fly, whose larvae often live in water. They are commonly found in dark, damp places in homes such as bathrooms and kitchens. You don’t want them in or near your eyes. A good way to help protect yourself is with cleanliness and keeping these areas of the house clean. So, if you have a dirty bathroom or kitchen and you’ve been telling your roommate or spouse that they need to take care of it–show them this story. If you want to keep your eyeballs, you best keep your kitchen and bathroom clean. If this story and the threat of possibly losing an eye doesn’t motivate them to help you clean, then I think you know what it’s time to do.
According to NDTV, a similar incident happened to a 97-year-old woman in China who got an infection after a fly landed on a wound. It sounds like she had a dirty bathroom and kitchen that was attracting many flies. Again, you want to avoid these problems? Best keep your house clean!
