Jared Goff has given something to Detroit that the city hasn’t experienced in three decades: a winning Detroit Lions football team. Now, Jared Goff gets personal in a new interview. In it, the quarterback talks about his big move to the Motor City, what he loves about Michigan and more.
Detroit Lions’ Jared Goff Gets Personal
Jared Goff gets personal on the latest episode of the Trading Cards podcast. In the chat, he talks about what it was like getting traded to Detroit, an area of the country that many thought would be the end of him. I mean, joining one of the worst teams in the NFL could seem like a death sentence to some. But, Goff didn’t see it that way. “Being shipped off and sent to a place to die, essentially, is what a lot of people think it was. And I was never going to allow that to happen,” Goff said. “I’m fortunate enough to be around a lot of good coaches and players in Detroit who support me and help me reach my potential.”
Goff added that it was “really the overwhelming emotion once I got to talk to Dan (Campbell) and Brad (Holmes) and got to get out there to Detroit and really see the city and get to experience it. The feeling of like, OK, this is the ground floor, they’re breaking this all the way down to the studs and they’re going to build it back up and I’m going to get to be on the ground floor with them.” He added that the trade is “the greatest thing that ever happened to me for my career and my development as a human.”
Goff also gave props to the Detroit Lions fans in Detroit and throughout Michigan. He made the point that, “the whole state of Michigan has one football team, whereas in California, there was four when the Raiders were here.” He added that in the Mitten, “It’s either UM or Michigan State, and then it’s the Lions in the NFL and then Tigers and Wings and Pistons. But, it’s so ingrained in the culture there to be a sports fan and to raise your kids to root for the Lions or the Tigers or whoever it may be, and that’s been so fun for me to be a part of and to give those fans something to really be proud of the last couple years.” It’s nice to see how Goff gets personal in this new chat and shows a side of him we haven’t seen before.
