Downtown Detroit will have plenty to do to celebrate the Tigers’ home opener. The District Detroit is even celebrating. The Detroit Tigers’ home opener against the Oakland Athletics will take place Friday April 5 at 1:10 pm. That will be followed by the Detroit Red Wings home game against the New York Rangers. Whether you’re going to the games or not, the city offers all kinds of options for entertainment.
Fans headed to The District Detroit can enjoy food and drink specials, DJs, and giveaways on Columbia Street. It’s the pedestrian walkway located just steps away from Comerica Park across Woodward Avenue. “The District Detroit food and retail options will be offering game day specials and family-friendly activities throughout the day,” stated the news release.
Events And Specials Taking Place at The District Detroit
Attendees can enjoy outdoor seating, Tigers giveaways, and photo opportunities with PAWS, the Tigers mascot.
Detroit Vs. Everybody is offering limited edition Tigers gear alongside the original sweatshirt that ignited their brand. Customers spending $75 or more will receive a complimentary T-shirt.
Frida Batidos will have pulled pork over coconut ginger rice with tropical slaw for $8, along with slow-cooked black beans for vegetarians. Miller Lite and Miller High Life are available in buckets of 5 for $10, accompanied by $3 shots of Cazcabel tequila.
JoJo’s ShakeBAR is serving game day food and drinks throughout the day, featuring their signature brunch, Patron margarita tree, smash burgers, and biggie shakes.
Sahara Restaurant & Grill is inviting people to enjoy special shawarma sandwiches on their outdoor patio.
Union Assembly will provide celebration opportunities on its terraces and extended outdoor patio, featuring a live DJ and shot specials.
Hockeytown Café is opening all three floors. This includes the outdoor patio and rooftop deck, offering views and entertainment with live bands and DJs, along with drink specials.
Tin Roof is offering Opening Day Fast Pass Tickets, providing speedy entry, live music, drinks, and food across all four floors, including a patio bar and food truck.
PAWS will make an appearance on Columbia Street at 11 a.m. for photo opportunities.
Visitors attending the Red Wings game or a show at the Fox Theatre can explore dining options on Columbia Street, Tin Roof across from Comerica Park, or Basan, located next to Little Caesars Arena on Park Avenue.
The Tigers are off to a good start this season after winning their first four games. They are one of the two undefeated teams remaining and will try to keep the momentum going with another win over the Mets. The Detroit Tigers (4-0) will be going for the series win when they face the New York Mets (0-4) in the final game of their three-game interleague series on Thursday afternoon. The game will be played at Citi Field, the game began at 1:10 PM. ET.
