Yes, The State of Michigan has its signature cocktail—and you will not believe the name.

The State Of Michigan Official Cocktail Is Called A " Hummer"

Yes, Michigan has a state cocktail called the Hummer. It's a dessert drink made with ice cream and liquors. Jerome Adams invented the Hummer in Detroit in the late 1960s, and it's similar to a milkshake. The Hummer is made with vanilla ice cream, sweet liquors, rum, and Kahlúa+ and can be customized with whipped cream, maraschino cherries, or candy canes. To make a Hummer, you can puree all the ingredients in a blender and then pour the mixture into a glass

Who Is Jerome Adams, the Hummer Inventor?

Jerome Adams, originally from Georgia, worked at the Bayview Yacht Club for 50 years and is credited with inventing the Hummer cocktail. Adams started as a dishwasher in 1967 and, over a year, worked his way up to tending the bar.

In an article in the Metro Times in 2011, When he started tending bar at Bayview Yacht Club in 1967, Jerome Adams wasn't looking to create a worldwide sensation. He says he was trying to fill the shoes of his eminent predecessor, Curtis Hicks, who had tended the bar at Bayview for 28 years and was retiring.

How The Hummer Drink Got Its Name

After serving up the drinks to customers, they loved it. And asked, “You know what? After two of these damn things, kinda makes you wanna hum,’” he said. Thus, the hummer was born. Today, the boozy milkshake can be found on drink menus around town and worldwide.
