Cedar Point to Debut a New, Record-Breaking Roller Coaster
Summer is coming, and pretty soon, it will officially be roller coaster season. Michigan residents who like to get their big thrills on can head a few hours down to Ohio to ride the coasters at Cedar Point. The park offers 68, everything from the family-friendly Wild Mouse to the adrenaline-pumping roller coasters. Growing up, a trip to Cedar Point every summer was always on the schedule. I remember plenty of Girl Scout trips there, too. Now, Cedar Point is gearing up to debut a new roller coaster, and it looks really amazing.
Cedar Point’s Newest Ride
According to a press release from the park, Cedar Point is testing the “Top Thrill 2, the tallest and fastest triple-launch roller coaster in the world.” So, it would break records. They note that the Parks is continuing the testing phase in advance of Cedar Point’s opening in May. “Engineers from the ride’s manufacturer, Zamperla, are programming the strata coaster’s fully automated ride sequence, fine tuning the linear synchronous motor launch system, testing rider safety systems and running the metallic silver train through its paces,” they explain. They add that very soon, “all three of Top Thrill 2’s 20-passenger trains will be programmed to operate together, followed by additional ride commissioning, safety testing and state licensing.”
Top Thrill 2 is scheduled to open to the public on Cedar Point’s opening day, which is Saturday, May 4. It joins a long list of coasters for thrill-seekers. Looking at the list of current rides, I remember some from my childhood. The Blue Streak has pretty much been there forever. It opened back in 1964 and is still a favorite. My personal favorite Cedar Point coaster is the Iron Dragon. It’s so relaxing, and your feet dangle as the ride goes along the track. The park describes it best, stating, “when you’re traveling that fast, with nothing but water and forests beneath you, there’s nothing you can do but scream and hold on tight.”
