Danish Man Sticks 68 Matches Up Nose For World Record
Danish Man Sticks 68 Matches Up Nose!
We cover all sorts of crazy world records on the show. It seems likes matches are the trend right now. Just last week, we discussed a man who built a replica of the Eiffel Tower using matchsticks. He ended up not receiving the record after being disqualified for the type of matchsticks he used. Now, a man still creative, just in a a different way. A Danish man sticks 68 matches up his nose to set a Guinness World Record.
68 Matches Up His Nostrils
A man from Denmark named Peter von Tangen Buskov shattered a previous world record for most matchsticks in a person’s nostrils. The previous record was 45 and Peter stuffed his nostrils with an astonishing 68 matchsticks! It’s unclear if Peter knew he had this remarkable talent or if he just went for it and surprised himself. According to UPI.com, he said “Surprisingly it didn’t really hurt. I have fairly large nostrils and quite stretchy skin. I’m sure that helped a lot.” It’s unclear if there was a time restraint on how long he had to fill his nostrils or if it’s just about the quantity. You can see it all for yourself if interested in the video we’ve provided courtesy of Guinness World Records YouTube page.
Set One Yourself!
Like Peter, if you have an interest in becoming a Guinness World Record holder, you just need to browse what’s out there. He said that he started flipping through the current records to see if there was anything he could accomplish. We’d love to hear about any records our listeners have or even better, have failed to complete. We have to imagine there are a bunch of people who attempt to do something off-the-wall and fail. Maybe an interesting documentary idea. Trademark Dave and Chuck the Freak!
50 Best Power Ballads of All Time
Power ballads: They’re some of music’s most powerful expressions. While their popularity exploded in the ‘80s, they can be found in multiple decades, as is evident in our list.
According to Cambridge University Press’ academic journal Popular Music, “The power ballad has become a mainstay of popular music since the 1970s…The songs are defined by the use of both a musical formula based on constant escalation and an expressive formula that combines the euphoric uplift created by rousing music with sentimental themes and ploys.”
The journal further notes that power ballads aren’t exclusively rock songs. In fact, many songs from the 1970s that are considered power ballads fall under the pop genre. In the 1960s, many songs considered power ballads had more R&B elements to them.
However, the grand nature of the power ballad lent itself well to the rock music of the 1980s. During that time, everything was “bigger,” and we aren’t just talking about hair and shoulder pads. Personalities seemed bigger. The stakes for fame seemed bigger. There was a kind of boldness that was only of that time.
With all of this in mind, our list of the 50 Best Power Ballads below might include some surprising songs. However, it will also include entries you’d expect to see on this list.
There is one other parameter that was set for this list: Bands/artists will only be represented by one song to provide for a fun variety. However, solo tracks and band recordings count as two separate entries. This means certain musicians might show up more than once on this list. (Spoiler: We’re looking at you Jon Bon Jovi! And really, how could we not look at JBJ, am I right?!)
