Freezing or Sizzling? Here’s the 3-Month Michigan Weather Forecast

We’ve made it to that final stretch of winter in Michigan. Although, aside from a few January storms, it didn’t feel much like winter across the United States this year. Not that I’m complaining. I’d be happy to live in a climate with no snow and ice all year long. But, the good news is that spring is coming up in about a month. So, we just have to get through these last few weeks of winter. What’s even better is that the three-month Michigan weather forecast is promising.

The National Weather Service Climate Prediction Center (CPC) releases maps showing the probability of temperatures and precipitation being above or below normal conditions. As they explain on their website, “The CPC also makes available versions of these outlooks giving temperature (degrees Fahrenheit) and precipitation (inches) for the lower 48 states by climate regions (Probability of Exceedence), analysis and outlooks of tropical Pacific sea surface temperatures (SSTs) which indicate El Niño or La Niña episodes, and skill scores of the CPC outlooks.” I always look at the three-month forecasts, as they show a general trend for the next quarter of the year, in terms of above or below normal temperatures and precipitation. Their latest forecast is for February, March and April 2024.

So, let’s get into the Michigan weather forecast. The three-month outlook gives most of Michigan a “likely above” temperature forecast. Most of the state has a 50% to 60% chance of having above normal temperatures. The very lower part of the state has a “leaning above” temperature forecast. As for precipitation, most of Michigan has a “leaning below” chance for below normal precipitation. So, we’re looking at a warmer and drier few months. I’m not mad about it. Now can I start planting my spring flowers? Probably too early for that. Moreover, find more information on the NOAA forecast here.

Do You Have More or Less in Your 401K Than Most People Your Age?

  • Under 25 years old

    In this age group, the average 401K balance is $5,236 and the median is $1,948. You’re obviously just getting your feet wet in investing. Some people fresh out of high school or college probably don’t have anything in their 401Ks at this point.

  • Between 25-34

    In this age group, the average 401K balance is $30,017 and the median is $11,357. This is significantly higher than the under 25 age range. But, it’s definitely not enough to retire on. So, keep grinding.

  • Between 35-44

    In this age group, the average 401K balance is $76,354 and the median is $28,318. Notice the big difference between average and median. Obviously, with the median, that means half of people in that age group have less than $28,318 and half have more.

  • Between 45-54

    In this age group, the average 401K balance is $142,069 and the median is $48,301. This is another one where the average and median are very different. Half of people in that age group have less than $48,301 and half have more.

  • Between 55-64

    In this age group, the average 401K balance is $207,874 and the median is $71,168. Some people “early retire” in this age group. But, only if you have enough cash. People with pensions are sometimes able to retire in this age group. Also, you can receive Social Security retirement benefits as early as age 62.

  • 65 and older

    In this age group, the average 401K balance is $232,710 and the median is $70,620. Since you can receive Social Security retirement benefits as early as age 62, many people do choose to retire when they hit 65.
