Winning comes at a price. The Detroit Lions have raised season ticket prices for the 2024 season.
Many fans are now frustrated and are taking to social media to let their voices be heard. Others are saying it’s simply supply and demand.
Detroit Lions Raising Season Ticket Prices
According to SI, one fan who has tickets in section 335 had his tickets go up “almost $500 a seat.” SI points out that another season ticket holder said their ticket price nearly doubled “going from $1,550 to $2,879.” Another fan saw their club seat prices increase from $2,255 to $3,859, per SI.
It’s tough to see the tickets increase in price so dramatically in such little time. Sure, the team is finally performing well. However, fans feel like they’ve supported the team through decades of lows and it’s unfair to raise the prices of tickets as soon as the team is good.
SI reports that throughout the last five seasons the team basically didn’t change their season ticket prices. That’s why it’s come as such a surprise to Lions fans and season ticket holders. According to SI, last season the team raised ticket prices by 4% on average.
Timing is everything. Announcing this as the team is on the cusp of making the playoffs and possibly winning their division for the first time in 30 years stings. We should be celebrating! Instead, fans are frustrated and taking it out on social media.
By the rules of supply and demand, the decision makes sense. There’s a large demand for tickets, therefore prices go up. However, I think the fans are making a good point here. We’ve stuck by the team for so long. We’ve witnessed bad decision after bad decision, coach after coach, and more. Never giving up on our team. Now, the minute they turn things around, we’re stuck paying the bill.
A new study also named the Detroit Lions one of the most expensive teams to root for in the entire NFL. Read more about that here.
Are the Detroit Lions Overrated?
No, no, no. I will not accept the idea that the Detroit Lions are overrated. However, there’s a lot of negative buzz out there – both in Michigan and across the country – after the team’s past two shaky games. Many are saying that the team is overrated. As a lifelong Lions fan who now reports on the team, it’s like a dagger to my heart hearing these bad things about the Lions.
This team has worked hard to get to an 8-3 record. This team has come through in situations that nobody thought they could conquer. So, when asked the question, “Are the Detroit Lions overrated?” My answer is, “No.” But, what do others think?
What does losing to Green Bay mean to the Detroit Lions?
Jeremy Reisman of Pride of Detroit joins Anne Erickson on “The Squad” on the WRIF this week. They have lots to talk about with the past two Detroit Lions games. What does this significant loss against the Green Bay Packers mean to the Lions? Are the Packers going to surprise everyone in the NFL and make it to the playoffs? What about Super Bowl predictions? Also, what does the future look like for Kirk Cousins and the Minnesota Vikings? I’m looking forward to watching the Vikings on Monday Night Football (Nov. 27) but, as as Spartan, I miss Cousins.
On the show, I brought up the fake punk attempt in the Green Bay game, which I felt was the wrong call. Reisman agreed but also said he’s a big fan of Dan Campbell’s aggressive calls. “I’m such a big fan of aggressive head coaching when it comes to fourth downs, so when it comes to something like this, you’ve got to take the good with the band,” Reisman said. “You take some of the over-aggression with the fact that he’s (Cambell) going to go for it more than often in what I think are appropriate situations. I’m with you. I don’t think that it was probably the appropriate situation, but you take the good with the bad with Dan Campbell. Unfortunately, it didn’t work out that time, and yeah, the Packers scored three plays later, and suddenly it’s back to a two-score game.” Reach out to Anne here.
Cort Freeman was born and raised in Metro Detroit. He was named Clarkston High School 2009 Class Clown 13 years after graduating. Totally normal thing to happen. That’s thanks to his time spent as an Intern at Comedy Central and Social Media Correspondent for The Colbert Report. Cort has done comedy across the country, both standing up and sitting down. When he’s not trying to make you laugh on-air and online, he’s probably at home enjoying his favorite shows like Seinfeld, South Park, and The Office. He’s also totally uncomfortable writing about himself in the third person. Cort enjoys writing about comedy, food, sports, and entertainment. So, basically anything and everything.
