‘Therapy Gecko’ Is Taking Over The Internet

Mental health is important. However, not everyone is comfortable opening up to another person who’s likely a stranger. Perhaps opening up to a man dressed up as gecko would make them feel more comfortable? A Maryland man who goes by the ‘Therapy Gecko’ is taking over the internet.

Lyle Drescher, of Owings Mills, Maryland, records podcasts and videos on social media taking calls from the public while dressed as a gecko. He’s now gained millions of fans on the internet.

Meet The ‘Therapy Gecko’

According to WBAL TV, some of his sessions are serious with people sharing what’s bothering them on a deeply personal level. In other sessions, they’ll talk about things like “pooping their pants,” WBAL TV says.

It should be noted that Drescher is a comedian, and not a licensed therapist. According to WBAL TV, during the pandemic he remembered he had a gecko costume stashed away in his closet and chose to put it to use.

Per WBAL TV, Dresher said, “I started streaming myself on Reddit as a gecko taking phone calls, and the streams would go on to the front page of Reddit.”

Thanks to his rising popularity on the internet, the ‘Therapy Gecko’ now goes beyond podcasts. He’s taking the costume all over the world. He’s able to combine some of his favorite things in life: talking to people and traveling.

According to WBAL TV, he said, “I think what I do now is a really great cross-section of all the things that have interested me throughout my life, so it’s comedy and traveling and having deep conversations with people, so I’m really grateful that I was able to find this weird thing that ended up being sort of perfect for me and my interests.”

Personally, I could see myself opening up to a man in a gecko outfit. There’s no way he can judge me for any of my issues. He’s dressed up as a gecko! You can check him out on TikTok here.

In the animal kingdom, evolution has bestowed upon various creatures abilities that are pretty awesome. The chameleon can change its skin to blend in with it’s environment. The octopus can mimic other creatures. The rhinoceros has super strength. Those are all awesome powers… the following are not as cool.

    Some birds have incredible abilities. The eagle can see for miles and has razor sharp talons. Not the bird of paradise. What mighty powers was it given? The power to dance. Yep, that’s right… so it dances like Buffalo Bill to attract a mate. Not the coolest ability if ya ask me.

  • The Cow

    Outside of being delicious, the cow doesn’t have many abilities. It can eat grass. It can run away from danger… but its farts are dangerously world endingly powerful. Their asses literally melt away the ozone like the laser of an evil comic book villain. Pretty lame, cows.

  • The Grasshopper

    In the world of insects there are a ton of superpower-like abilities that are so very cool. The rhinoceros beetle is so strong that if it were our size it could literally punch buildings down. Even flies have super vision because of there crazy eyes. Not the grasshopper though. It can… hop. Yep, it can hop like really, really far. Oh and if they get emotional enough they can transform into locusts and eat alot. Very lame, the grasshopper.

  • The Capybara

    The capybara is a giant rodent that resembles a gigantic guinea pig. What can it do, run at cheetah-like speed? Nope. Is it super strong? Not particularly. BUT IT CAN… take a nice warm bath in the hot springs found in its habitat. If you google this creature you’ll see it’s other ability.. which is to balance vegetables on it’s head. Two VERY dumb superpowers.
