Grandfather Arrested After Accidentally Shooting Grandson While Officiating Wedding
A 62-year-old grandfather was arrested after officiating a wedding in Nebraska.
According to a report, Michael Gardner thought it would be fun to get everyone’s attention by shooting a gun into the air during the service.
Unfortunately when he raised the gun, it slipped in his hand, and he shot his grandson in the shoulder. The round was a blank, but Gardner had put black powder into the casing and glued it. Questions remain as to why he would have done that in the first place. Investigators believe the power and glue are what caused injury to the 12-year-old child.
The injuries were not life-threatening, and the boy was taken to a local hospital.
Gardner turned himself in to the police and was arrested on a charge of child abuse for the neglectful firing of a firearm.
This story brings a lot of questions we may never get answered. The first being, as the grandfather officiating the wedding, why are you carrying a gun? Secondly, why did it need to be fired off? Are you Elmer Fudd? Are you hunting wabbits? It seems pretty unnecessary to carry the gun and shoot it altogether. Did he think that since it was a blank it would just be cool to fire the gun in the air? If that’s the case, why did he put black power in the casing and glue it? Finally, is there no common sense here at all whatsoever?
Weddings are supposed to be joyous events spent with your friends and family. In a perfect world, you have a wonderful evening with memories that will last a lifetime. You don’t want the lasting memory of your big night to be a family member that shot another family member.
Moral of the story. Don’t bring a gun to a wedding. Especially if you are the grandfather and you are officiating the event.
