Armando Galarraga Threw a Near-Perfect Game 12 Years Ago Today
It may be hard to believe, but 12 years have passed since Detroit Tigers’ Armando Galarraga threw a near-perfect game at Comerica Park.
The date was June 2, 2010. Going up against the Cleveland Indians, Galarraga got the first 26 batters out. On the 27th batter, Jason Donald hit a grounder. Miguel Cabrera was able to throw it to Galarraga, who was covering first, but umpire Jim Joyce called him safe. After the game, Joyce said he made a mistake. So close!
