Former Red Wing Darren Helm Scores Game-Winning Goal for the Avalanche on a Very Special Daye Red Wings in the playoffs
Darren Helm helped the Detroit Red Wings score the Stanley Cup, and now he’s helping his current team.
Helm earned the Colorado Avalanche a spot in the Western Conference finals on Friday (May 27), when he scored a goal with just 5.6 seconds left on the clock against the St. Louis Blues.
“We had three guys going hard to the net and I was just kind of trailing,” Helm said during a post-game conference. “The pass bounced off the side wall, I just wanted to get the puck on the net, and it found its way.”
The goal actually happened 13 years to the day Helm scored in OT against the Chicago Blackhawks to snag the Wings a win. That was during Game 5 of the 2009 WCF.
