WRIF first started broadcasting true rock ‘n’ roll to the Motor City on On Feb. 14, 1971, and we’ve never looked back!

It’s been an honor to rock with you for the past 50 years, and we look forward to the next 50.

Let’s look back on these major events and happenings in Detroit and around the world in the year 2017!

  • The Tigers missed the playoffs for a third consecutive year.

  • In October, the National Women’s Convention was held in Detroit.

  • Coach Jim Caldwell was dismissed despite his winning record of 36–28 in four seasons.

  • The Harvey Weinstein allegations broke.

  • The Russian interference with presidential election investigation began.

  • The Women’s March happened in Washington D.C. One million marched in Washington with another 2 to 3 million around the U.S.

  • Prince Harry and Meghan Markle got engaged.
