WRIF first started broadcasting true rock ‘n’ roll to the Motor City on On Feb. 14, 1971, and we’ve never looked back!

It’s been an honor to rock with you for the past 50 years, and we look forward to the next 50.

Let’s look back on these key events and happenings in Detroit and around the world in the year 2004!

  • In February, Super Bowl XL was held in Detroit. The Pittsburgh Steelers beat the Seattle Seahawks.

  • In May, the Red Wings made it to the playoffs, but lost in the Western Conference Quarter-finals.

  • In June, the Pistons made it to the playoffs, but lost to the Miami Heat.

  • In October, the Detroit Tigers beat the Oakland A’s in the American League Championship Series. They played in their first World Series since 1984, losing to the St. Louis Cardinals.

  • In December, the Lions finished with a 3–13 record.

  • In November, Nintendo released the Wii gaming console in the United States.

  • Google bought YouTube for US$1.65 billion in stock.

  • NASA created the New Horizons probe.

  • The ESA’s Venus Express landed at Venus.
