Air Force to Land Military Planes on Michigan Highway for War Training Exercise

Part of M-32 will be closed on Thursday (Aug. 5) when the U.S. Air Force trains airmen and airwomen to land on civilian roadways. The training is part of the annual Northern Strike war-readiness training exercise, according to WPBN/WGTU.

Personnel plan to land two C-146 and four A-10 aircraft on M-32 by the Alpena Combat Readiness Training Center in Alpena County, on Thursday, Aug. 5.

M-32 will be closed from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Aug. 5 from east of Herron Road to west of King Settlement Road for the land.

Units that are taking part in the landing include the Michigan Air National Guard’s127th Wing from Selfridge Air National Guard Base, the Air Force’s 355th Wing from Davis-Monthan Air Force Base in Arizona and the Air Force Special Operations Command from Duke Field in Florida.

Civilians are warned not to gather near the closed roadway and to stay clear of landing zones.
