WRIF first started broadcasting true rock ‘n’ roll to the Motor City on On Feb. 14, 1971, and we’ve never looked back!
It’s been an honor to rock with you for the past 50 years, and we look forward to the next 50.
Let’s remember these chief events and milestones in Detroit and around the globe in the year 1991!

In April, the Red Wings finished third in the NHL Norris Division.

In May, the Pistons finished second in the NBA’s Central Division.

In October, the Tigers finished second in American League East.

Heading into January 1992, the Lions finished first in the NFC Central Division. Wow! Barry Sanders led the crew with 102 points scored.

The 1991 Grammy for Record of the Year went to “Another Day in Paradise” from Phil Collins and producers Hugh Padgham and Phil Collins.

The 1991 Grammy for Album of the Year went to Quincy Jones (producer and artist) for “Back on the Block.”

Some of the most popular toys from 1991 included Lil’ Miss Mermaid Doll, Laundry Play Center, High Voltage Highway and Crimp N’ Curl Cabbage Patch Kid.

Famous birthdays in 1991 included Emma Roberts on Feb. 10 and Ed Sheeran on Feb. 19.

Popular movies from 1991 included “Terminator 2: Judgment Day,” “Beauty and the Beast” and “Father of the Bride.”

Anne Erickson started her radio career shortly after graduating from Michigan State University and has worked on-air in Detroit, Flint, Toledo, Lansing and beyond. As someone who absolutely loves rock, metal and alt music, she instantly fell in love with radio and hasn’t looked back.
