It’s been an honor to rock with you for the past 50 years, and we look forward to the next 50.
Let’s look back on these important events and milestones in Detroit and around the world in the year 1985!

Darryl Rogers was hired as the head coach of the Detroit Lions in February.

In April, the Red Wings compiled a 31-42-7 record and finished third in the NHL Norris Division.

In May, the Pistons compiled a 46-36 record and finished second in the NBA’s Central Division.

Darrell Evans, at age 38, lead the American League with 40 home runs.

In October, the Tigers compiled an 84-77 record and finished third in American League East.

In December, the Lions compiled a 7-9 record and finished fourth in the NFC Central Division.

The 1985 Grammy for Record of the Year went to Tina Turner for “What’s Love Got To Do With It.”

The 1985 Grammy for Album of the Year went to Lionel Richie (producer and artist) for “Can’t Slow Down.”

Some of the most popular toys from 1985 included Barbie Home and Office, Wuzzles, Fisher Price Kodak Camera, ARGUS Leader and Kindergym.

The famed Live Aid Concerts took place during July of 1985.

In April of 1985, Coca-Cola introduced “New Coke,” which many considered to be an epic fail.

“Back to the Future,” “The Color Purple” and “Rocky IV” were popular movies in 1985.
