Remembering the Year 1975: Detroit History, Music, Pop Culture and More

It’s been an honor to rock with you for the past 50 years, and we look forward to the next 50.
Let’s take a moment to look back on the ’70s with these important events and happenings in Detroit and around the world in the year 1975!
- In April of 1975, under Alex Delvecchio, the Detroit Red Wings compiled a 23–45–12 record and finished fourth in the Norris Division.
- In September of 1975, the Detroit Tigers compiled a 57–102 record, the second worst season in club history to that time.
- In December of 1975, under Rick Forzano, the Detroit Lions compiled a 7–7 record and finished second in the NFC Central.
- In August of 1975,releases his third album, “Born To Run,” often noted as one of the greatest of all time.
- The 1975 Grammy for Record of the Year went to John Farrar (producer) & Olivia Newton-John for “I Honestly Love You.”
- The 1975 Grammy for Album of the Year went to Stevie Wonder (producer & artist) for “Fulfillingness’ First Finale.”
- Barbie and GI Joe figurines were the most popular toys of 1975.
- Famous birthdays from 1975 include Tiger Woods on Dec. 30, Angelina Jolie on June 4, Jack White on July 9 and Kate Winslet on Oct. 5.
- “The Jeffersons” and “M*A*S*H” were some of the most popular TV programs in 1975.
Anne Erickson started her radio career shortly after graduating from Michigan State University and has worked on-air in Detroit, Flint, Toledo, Lansing and beyond. As someone who absolutely loves rock, metal and alt music, she instantly fell in love with radio and hasn’t looked back. When she’s not working, Anne makes her own music with her band, Upon Wings, and she also loves cheering on her favorite Detroit and Michigan sports teams, especially Lions and MSU football.
