Video Games have been around for a long time. Dating back to the first video games of the 1950’s. The first game console was the Magnavox Odyssey, and the first arcade game was Pong and Computer Space. Eventually the success of several video games led to their crossover into the movie industry. These days as games have become more and more complex, the number of games has grown to epic proportions.

Video Games and Their Many Genres

Some genres include Action games, adventure, RPGs (role playing games) Sports, first person shooters, survival and many more. With so many genres to choose from these days, this opens the door for several compelling plots to develop within said games. Some of the greatest storylines in video games come from adventure games.

Adventure Games

Adventure games are designed to keep the player invested and completely involved in the events of the game. From the moment you put the game down, you cannot wait to pick up the controller and continue your adventurous journey. These types of games also typically involve a structured reward and achievement system.

A sense of accomplishment coupled with exploring amazing worlds and storylines make adventure games one of the best genres. Some examples of great adventure games include God of War Ragnarök, Life is Strange, Batman Arkham Asylum, and Red Dead Redemption II. Another type of video game worth talking about are RPG’s.

Youths play video games in a gaming room in Hanoi on December 25, 2024. New Vietnamese internet rules requiring Facebook and TikTok to verify user identities and hand over data to authorities came into force on December 25, in what critics say is the latest attack on freedom of expression. The new laws also include curbs on gaming for under-18s, designed to prevent addiction.

RPGs (Role-playing games)

RPGs allow the player to play “the role” of a character whose game experience can be entirely impacted by the player’s choices throughout. The player can join factions, kill or save certain characters, and choose to befriend or turn against certain characters within the game. These decisions can impact the outcome of storylines and the overall game itself.

These games are designed to be the most immersive of all video games. Examples include Diablo, Baldur’s Gate, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, and World of Warcraft. The gaming industry is a multi-billion-dollar enterprise, generating over $455 billion last year alone.

The world of gaming is split into three sectors: mobile games, PC games, and console games. Throughout the world of gaming, the global movie industry has tried to take advantage of this space by creating several movie adaptations for existing games. Some movies are better than others, but check out the best of the best below! Anyone interested in movie villains should check out this story!
