Ten Great Michigan Haunted Attractions

It’s the best time of the year, haunted house time! Michigan has no lack of horror fans and ways to enjoy Halloween. And one of those best activities is visiting a haunted house (or barn, farm, forest, etc). In addition to the ones I am aware of, bestthingsmi.com and michiganhauntedhouses.com have some great haunted attractions to check out.

There are few things I enjoy more than Halloween. From the costumes, masks, horror movies, and the latest animatronic nightmare. I look forward to candy corn more than is clinically allowed. I’ve been to a few haunted houses, but with my children always being deathly afraid of monsters (yet my home has animatronics all over including the Texas Chainsaw Massacre) it has been hard to frequent as many as I would like. But I am always a horror nerd, looking forward to revisiting these haunted paradises.

Last year Alice Cooper had a street named after him in Westland at the Eloise Asylum. Which is now a haunted attraction that offers a haunted asylum and ghost tours. If you didn’t catch it when it was out, a show called Making Monsters also built a GIANT Frankenstein’s monster/Alice for one of his tours. And after that MICHIGAN’S HAUNTED ATTRACTIONS!

 

  • 1. Eloise Asylum In Westland

    As mentioned, the former Eloise Psychiatric Hospital, in Westland, has been turned into a full-fledged 30,000-square-foot haunted hospital. They’ve spared no expense in restoring the hospital to its former “glory”. I experienced it first hand when the Alice Cooper street sign was revealed and the inside looks legit. And I only was able to see a small portion as they prepared for the season.

  • 2. Erebus in Pontiac

    What Michigan haunted list can be without Erebus? One of the most spoken and advertised. I have never gone, but I know I got to someday. I hear they have you sign a waiver to allow the actors/actresses to touch you prior to you going. My pal Wolfman Mack has always been a big supporter. And if a werewolf likes it, then it can’t be bad! Or maybe it is bad but in a good way. 

  • 3. Hush in Westland

    Want to get scared and have a few drinks too? Hush in addition to having multiple attractions also houses three “secret” bars. Will you risk the thrills and chills? Plus another haunt in Westland? Lots of scares in this town.

     

  • 4. Niles Scream Park in Niles

    Niles Scream Park was voted #1 Top Haunt by Costernation.com in 2021. It has 44 acres of scare and includes six attractions such as The Niles Haunted House, Sinister Streets of Salem, The Evil Estate, The Field of Screams, Dark Terror-tory Haunted Hayride, and Hooded. 

  • 5. The Scream Machine in Taylor

    Hmm, it would appear Dr. Kirurg is bored and wants to have fun again…with you. The current theme of The Scream Machine for 2022 is a bit medical. Perhaps you can volunteer for Dr. Kirurg’s experiments?

  • 6. Slaughterhouse Adventure in Fowlerville

    What screams family fun more than Slaughterhouse? I can’t think of anything more wholesome. And they are opening for the 2022 season with a slaughterhouse (of course), a haunted corn maze and a haunted hay ride. The 2022 theme is Game of Bones! They all float down here GEORGIE! 

     

     

  • 7. Azra Chamber of Horrors in Madison Heights

    Now on their 5th season, Azra opens the 2022 season with a SCREAM! Another high-rated haunt fest. And my favorite feature, that’s not scary at all, is heated and covered lines. I recall going to a haunted forest one time and it was a three-hour wait in the cold miserable rain. So this is a feature I can endorse! Being old and brittle. 🙂

  • 8. The Manistee Ghost Ship event in Manistee

    What’s not to love? The entire town of Manistee makes an event of a haunted GHOST SHIP! The S.S. City of Milwaukee, a railroad car ferry gets turned into a haunted ship. Come on? And as a bonus, all the proceeds go are for a fundraising event. 

  • 9. Past Tense After Dark in Lapeer

    I love their name. Has a great story element to it. My favorite story was Past Tense After Dark. And the great names continue with their featured attractions: The House of Horrors, The Corn Maze of Fear, and The Hayride of Despair. 

  • 10. The Howling Haunted Trail in Fenton

    The Howling Haunted Trail is located in beautiful Fenton. This one is extra awesome because all the proceeds go to Adopt a Pet. Take a walk through the deep dark woods and at the end get some grub and a beer!
