Old, jazz electric guitar with a luminous garland. New Year greeting card for musician, guitarist. Festive background.

My list of 2022’s best songs includes big names and not-so-big names. It’s been a great year for rock music.

Remember that Gene Simmons statement that rock and roll is dead? No way. This year, the women sure came out in full force- I think even out rocking all the guys this year. Lots of great concerts with full bands stacked on the bill. Also, there were some cancellations and discussions of out-of-control ticket prices. Here are my favorite songs of 2022.

  • The Smashing Pumpkins - "Beguiled"

Talk about a comeback song and a tour this year. The song, “Beguiled,” from the upcoming album ATUM is a favorite. Billy Corgan has his first top 10 single in over ten years. Can’t wait to hear the rest of this album. This band jumped from the 90’s to 2022 with a bang.

  • Halestorm- "The Steeple"

I can remember when Lzzy Hale played for the first time at the I-Rock nightclub for their first time ever in Detroit. I-Rock Owners Steve & Ted called me and said, ” Hey you got to comedown and see this band live.” Lzzy’s vocals were so impressive, even back then. Love the power of her vocals on this song that continues to stick in my head. This song is epic!

  • Falling in Reverse - "Voices in my Head"

The lyrics are insane and so is the video. This band impressed me earlier with a song called, “Zombified.” The band hails from Las Vegas. Look for a lot more great music from this band. Look for the band in 2023. February 14th they make a stop in Kalamazoo, MI.

  • Mac Saturn - "Diamonds"

Hometown favorites Mac Saturn got a buzz all around town and across the country. The live shows are incredible. Recent sold out show at St. Andrews Hall cemented their mark as a band that’s next to break out of the Motor City.

  • I prevail - "Bad Things"

Another nod on my list from a band from here. I Prevail had a very good 2022. Great exposure music on the radio and great band to see Live. The show this year at Detroit’s Filmore on the True Power Tour. Just love when a hometown band gets to play a big venue. It’s like a homecoming game with all your good friends. Proud to have the band on my list this year.
