Live from the 313! In celebration of 313 Day, here's some iconic live albums recorded in the 313. Detroit crowds are like no other and are always the favorite of bands. Hell even Kiss paid tribute to the 313 with Detroit Rock City!
Detroit is home to many legendary acts like the MC5, Ted Nugent, Bob Seger , and even though they're technically from Ann Arbor I'm claiming The Stooges. Can't forget about The White Stripes, Kid Rock, I Prevail, Sponge, and Electric Six. There are dozens I didn't list but the world is well aware of Detroit's talent.
Detroit is so well loved that many iconic live albums were recorded in the 313. A lot of the great venues are no longer here, but we still have that moment in time when The Doors took over Cobo Arena in 1973 among others captured in time.
Detroit based Creem magazine was launched in 1969. It was considered the "anti" Rolling Stone. Perfect for Detroit. A little edgy, tough, and just plain badass. In what is probably the most perfect of timing, Creem Magazine is back in time for Detroit's renaisssance. No doubt Creem has covered many albums recorded live right here in the 313.
There's something magical about a Detroit audience and venue. So many iconic albums come from the hallowed walls of many Detroit venues. Cobo Hall, Grande Ballroom, St. Andrew's Hall, Olympia Stadium, and the Fischer Theatre just to name a few notable spots. The 313 is a special place, where many artists have tried to capture the true rock and roll spirit on tape to share with the world.
Here are just a few of the many iconic live albums recorded in the 313.
