We had a lot of great music that came out in 2022! I mean A LOT! I got the gist that a lot of bands really took time during the lockdown of the pandemic to work on new material and the result is here! 2022 was filled with new tunes from new bands, classic bands we’ve known and loved and even some bands that dipped a toe into rock n’ roll after performing in other formats. Either way, I’m here for it and I’m thrilled to be a part of the rock station that brings you new rock n’ roll. Hopefully the new music in 2022 will finally shut Gene Simmons up…

Here are some of my favorite songs that came out this year, in no particular order:

  • Muse - "Won't Stand Down"

Muse kicked things off HEAVY in 2022 with this absolute banger of a track! The video is super creepy and now that I’m looking back at it, this song was almost a precursor to the year.

  • Dorothy - "Rest In Peace"

The lyrics to this one just hit different. “One day I’ll be dancing on your grave.” Possibly the top breakup song of the year. (Sorry Taylor Swift.) Not to mention Dorothy is super talented and absolutely SLAYED at Riff Fest!

  • Shinedown - "Planet Zero"

It’s safe to say Shinedown knows what they’re doing when it comes to rock n’ roll. This song gave them their 18th #1 on the Billboard Mainstream Rock Chart and the band is showing no sign of slowing down anytime soon.

  • Ghost - "Call Me Little Sunshine"

C’mon, you didn’t think we’d get that far into this list without Ghost? They released Impera in March of 2022, went on to win an American Music Award (even if the award people didn’t know exactly who they were) and made a grip of cash off this record. Call me little sunshine, indeed!

  • Giovannie & the Hired Guns

Okay so technically, this song came out at the end of 2021 but it didn’t start making waves until this year. I saw the band at a little club in Vegas and that definitely sold me. For the record, Tejano Punk Boyz was released October 28th, 2022.

  • The Warning - "Money"

These chicks ROCK! I saw them at the House of Blues in Las Vegas and was blown away. These ladies are the next female champions of rock n’ roll and I am here for it! They went on to open up for Halestorm, The Pretty Reckless and Lilith Czar this summer, and if that’s not the female rock powerhouse of bands, I don’t know what is.

  • Papa Roach - "No Apologies"

A classic Papa Roach tune. They know how to make a hit and connect with people in every possible way. Not to mention Jacoby is a hell of a guy!

  • Ozzy Osbourne - "Patient Number 9"

GTFO Ozzy! This guy is dealing with major health issues and releases this absolute smash of an album! Featuring so many amazing musicians and kicks it all off with the title track that features Jeff Beck. Ozzy, we’re not worthy and you my man are the GOAT!

  • I Prevail - "Bad Things"

Our Detroit boys in I Prevail came at 2022 with a vengeance! The entire True Power album is heavy, emotional and hits in just the right spot. These guys are true champions for mental health, and it’s so evident in everything they do. I know their fans appreciate it. I can’t wait to see what the future holds for them!

  • Beartooth - "Riptide"

Beartooth just released an album in 2021 so when they dropped this surprise single earlier this year I was STOKED! I’m a massive Beartooth fan, and this song is one of my top played of the year. Caleb channeled his inner boy band, pop artist and you can definitely hear it. They managed to maintain their style which I think is totally rad. Can’t wait for a new full album!

  • Highly Suspect - "Natural Born Killer"

I love that this band experiments with different sounds and styles. You never really know what you’re going to get with them and I’m always impressed. Not to mention their live show is AMAZING.

  • Blink-182 - "Edging"

Straight up, I’m just so happy the gang is all back together. Classic lyrics from these guys, might I add.

  • Metallica - "Lux Æterna"

Okay, Metallica. I don’t even know what to say. What a way to end the year with new music, am I right? Holy sh*t. This song SLAPS. I can’t wait to hear the rest of the album, and then hear this track LIVE at Ford Field. Looking like 2023 will have some killer tunes as well!
