50 YEARS OF WRIF

On July 4, 2003, Metallica kicked off their Sumer Sanitarium Tour at the Pontiac Silverdome. The tour featured Limp Bizkit, Linkin Park, Deftones and Mudvayne as the opening acts. Since Detroit was the first date of the tour, Metallica had to do some stage rehearsals and they invited us and some lucky WRIF listeners to check out this once in a lifetime experience. Listeners got to watch Metallica perform a full dressed rehearsal with pyro. You can check out some photos from that day before the tour officially kicked off the next day below. One cool fact about this tour was that it was bassist Robert Trujillo’s first tour with the band after replacing longtime bassist Jason Newsted. So I guess you can say we got to see Roberts first ever show with Metallica! Were you lucky enough to check out the rehearsal and/or the fourth of July show? Let us know in the comments!
