Latest on New Music from SOAD, Ghost, Volbeat
Some of hard rock and metal’s biggest bands are busy working on new music. Here’s the latest new music news as we move closer to 2019.
System of a Down
Just like Tool fans, System of a Down fans have been long awaiting new music since the band’s 2005 album Hypnotize and ever since the band ended their hiatus in 2010. While there have been various creative issues within the band on new material, bassist Shavo Odadjian offered somewhat of a glimmer of hope in a new interview with Consequence of Sound.
“Nothing between us has happened that’s so terrible that people can’t get in the studio and work,” said Odadjian. “Nothing! Everything is just [a matter of] taste, and they just gotta get in and forget the past, and kind of move forward. And I think that will happen. I’m not worried. I’m not worried at all.”
Ghost
Ghost, by far, released one of the best albums in 2018, and fans may not have to wait for very long until new music comes out.
In an interview with Loudwire, Tobias Forge says the band will be spending the majority of 2019 touring, while 2020 will find the band with some much needed time off the road in order to hunker down in a studio to record their fifth studio album with hopes to release that LP by the end of the year.
Volbeat
Last, but definitely not least, Volbeat is currently working on their seventh studio album, the follow up to 2016’s Seal the Deal & Let’s Boogie.
Guitarist Rob Caggino told Loudwire that Volbeat is “right in the middle” of recording the new album, but there’s still “tons of stuff to do.”
“It’s definitely not going to be the same thing as the last record or the record before it,” said Caggino. “It’ll be slightly different. Obviously we’re right smack in the middle of it right now, so it’s hard to say but definitely has a big rock feel to it, which I think is a cool thing. We’ll see how we end up.”
