Neal Schon Blames Avenged Sevenfold for Sound Issues During Journey’s Rock in Rio Set
Journey guitarist Neal Schon has a bone to pick with Avenged Sevenfold over sound issues during their set at Rock in Rio last week.
Journey’s set featured some uncharacteristically sub-par vocals from singer Arnel Pineda, who took criticism of his performance to heart. He wrote on Facebook, He wrote, “No one more than me in this world feels so devastated about this…It’s really amazing how 1 thousand right things you have done will be forgotten just cause of THIS..and of all the place , it’s in Rock In Rio…”
Pineda continued, “Mentally and emotionally, I’ve suffered already, and I’m still suffering..but I’ll be ok…So, here’s the deal here now..I am offering you a chance now (especially those who’s hated me and never liked me from the very beginning) to simply text GO or STAY right here…and if GO reaches 1 million…I’m stepping out for good..are you game folks?”
Thousands of fans showed up in the comment section and offered their support of Pineda. Among the support was Schon, who wrote, “Arnel dont listen to these blogs. They are all bought. You’ve kicked ass!”
This then led Schon to share two posts to Facebook defending Journey’s Rock in Rio set. The first featured video from the show and the caption read, “All this absolute garbage fabricated bullsh-t about [Pineda]. Does this look like nobody had a good time? I’m asking you. All fabricated, owed and bought blogs, bullsh-t.
The second post was a video of the Journey taking their bow at the end of their set. Schon included the caption, “This clip is from Rio, even though we found out much later that we got extremely limited by Avenged Sevenfold that means that hardly hardly any sound can get out of the PA to the audience. It’s a bullsh-t move. Check out the audience. They loved it the rest of its fabricated crap.”
One fan asked in the comment section of the second post, “How the hell was Journey not the headliner? You guys have sold over 100 million albums worldwide. Avenged Sevenfold about 8 million, seriously wtf.” Schon replied to the fan and wrote, “Politics.”
As of publishing, Avenged Sevenfold hasn’t commented on Schon’s claim that they somehow led to issues with Journey’s sound during their set at Rock in Rio. However, the last thing any rock fan today would expect is a potential feud between Journey and Avenged Sevenfold. Here’s hoping A7X responds soon, if only for some random drama.
