Dave Grohl vs. Taylor Swift: Did Rock’s Nice Guy Take Aim at ‘The Eras Tour’?
Dave Grohl is receiving a lot of attention for comments he made about Taylor Swift during a Foo Fighters show over the weekend in London.
This past weekend, London was the host of both the Foo Fighters and Swift’s massive, record-breaking “The Eras Tour.” During one of Grohl’s between-song banter moments, he mentioned how Swift was also performing in the city at Wembley Stadium. This apparently led to some boos from the Foo fans, to which Grohl responded, “I tell you, man, you don’t want to suffer the wrath of Taylor Swift.”
Grohl continued, “So, we like to call our tour the ‘Errors Tour.’ We’ve had more than a few eras, and more than a few f—ing errors as well. Just a couple. That’s because we actually play live. What?!”
Grohl then stepped away from the microphone while the crowd laughed and cheered. He returned to the mic and playfully added, “Just saying. You guys like raw, live rock ‘n’ roll music, right? You came to the right f—ing place.”
After Grohl’s seemingly random one-liner started making the rounds online, some pointed to Swift, perhaps, addressing his comment. During another one of her London shows, Swift thanked her backing band for “playing live for you for three and a half hours tonight.”
Is There More to Dave Grohl’s Comment About Taylor Swift’s “Eras Tour”?
Grohl taking a swipe at Swift seems random and out of character for the two-time Rock & Roll Hall of Famer. After all, he has praised Swift publicly on multiple occasions. If you scroll below, you can watch a clip of Grohl from a 2018 appearance on The Late Late Show with James Corden where he tells a funny story about how the pop star stepped in to help him out at a party hosted by Paul McCartney.
Was there a reason for Grohl’s comment? Consequence points to a Reddit thread referencing how Grohl’s daughter, Violet, was attacked by Swift’s fans on social media for criticizing her frequent use of private jets. (Business Insider has a breakdown of the Swift/private jet controversy, as well as an overall look at the criticisms of celebrities who frequently use private jets and their impact on carbon emissions.)
The Reddit thread states, “[Swifties] found [Violet], harassed her on every platform … Eventually she deactivated because the attacks were becoming so personal and relentless.”
As expected, some Swifties had no chill about the entire situation, as can be seen by a simple search of “Dave Grohl” on X (formerly Twitter).
So, what can be taken away from this whole situation? To begin with, it’s amazing how much discourse can happen from just one comment, regardless of which side you’re on in Grohl vs. Swift. But perhaps, Swift, herself, has the best takeaway of them all for everyone: “You Need To Calm Down.”
