Sebastian Bach Thinks ‘There’s a Lack of Fun’ in Rock in 2023
Sebastian Bach made some interesting comments in a new interview about the current state of rock.
Speaking with GoldDerby, Bach talks about his new single, “What Do I Got To Lose?,” which is featured on his upcoming 2024 solo album. The album is Bach’s first new solo LP since 2014’s Give ‘Em Hell.
Bach explains he teamed with Myles Kennedy and Michael “Elvis” Baskette to write the track, which he calls “fun, fist-in-the-air party-time rock” a la Def Leppard. The “fun” of the song is something Bach really stressed, saying, ” … When I look around rock and roll in 2023, I think there’s a lack of fun. Everybody’s, ‘This guy said this about this guy. This guy said this about that.’ It’s just clickbait and negativity that I could see.”
Bach’s Previous Comments About Rock Today
This isn’t the first time the former Skid Row frontman has expressed concern about rockers today. In an October 2021 interview with Ultimate Classic Rock, he touched on how so many of his rock heroes were retiring and how he wasn’t sure if bands coming up had what it takes to replace classic rock icons. A big thing he pointed to was the increased use of backing tracks during live performances.
“There’s gonna be a time when those tape bands are gonna have to do it for real, and people are gonna go, ‘This is a f—ing joke,'” said Bach. “And I just know that real musicians hit your heart way more hard than guys miming to a tape.”
Bach also thinks that some musicians today aren’t as disciplined due to increased distractions, like video games. He explains that the likes of Neil Peart and Eddie Van Halen weren’t locked in their bedrooms for hours on end playing video games. Instead, all they had were their instruments.
