VIDEO: Evanescence’s Cover of Bananarama’s ‘Cruel Summer’
Evanescence’s Amy Lee and Troy McLawhorn laid down a stripped cover of Bananarama’s “Cruel Summer” and shared it to their YouTube channel.
Embedded below, the cover was part of the live stream for Germany’s MagentaMusik 360. After the performance, Lee said, “I don’t know about you guys, but so many songs have seemed to have taken on a new and deeper meaning during this time, and that’s one of those for me.”
Lee continued, “I hope you enjoyed it. I hope you enjoyed our little performance. We can’t wait to play for you live in the flesh again, but until then, stay safe, be well and take care. We love you.”
Evanescence plans on releasing their new album, The Bitter Truth, gradually in 2020. “Wasted On You,” the first single from the album, is available on all major streaming platforms here. The decision to opt for a gradual release as opposed to a more traditional release was made as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.
Lee said in a statement, “We are still writing and have a lot more work to do on this album, but this time we wanted to release the songs individually, as we create, to live more in the moment with our fans and our music.”
