Tool and Henry Rollins Video makes the Rounds on Reddit Ahead of Anniversary
While the anniversary of Tool first full-length record Undertow is about a week away, fans on reddit are rediscovering this video today of Henry Rollins in the studio with the band recording Bottom and telling a fairly entertaining story about Iggy Pop.
I had long heard a rumor that originally Rage Against the Machine’s Zack Del La Rocha was slotted for the role, which makes sense considering how close both bands were at the time. Maynard shows up on Rage’s debut record for the track Know Your Enemy which according to wikipedia was originally earmarked for Jane’s Addiction singer Perry Farrel so perhaps that’s where the mix up stems from on this bit of Tool history. the band cleared up the story in this Rolling Stone article a few years ago but in the meantime you can hear what it was like during the Lollapalooza ’93 tour when both bands we’re getting their big breaks courtesy of this video.
