Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross Hammer Out ‘Halloween’ Tribute
With a new ep, “Add Violence,” just out, group founder Trent Reznor and his musical partner Atticus Ross have dropped a new tribute to horror film director and composer John Carpenter.
The duo has released a version of Carpenter’s theme for his 1978 classic “Halloween,” which was reprised in some of the movie’s sequels.
Reznor says in a statement that, “I clearly remember my friends and I at 13 years old conning our parents into letting us see ‘Halloween’ when it come out in 1978. We left the theater forever changed. We were damaged and scarred, with the s*** genuinely scared out of us and that them stuck firmly in our heads. John Carpenter, it’s your fault that I turned out the way it did.”
It’s not known if the Reznor-Ross version of the “Halloween” them will be included on “Anthology: Movie Themes 1974-1988,” a new compilation of Carpenter’s film music which comes out October 20.
The album will definitely feature 13 of Carpenter’s compositions, newly recorded by the director with his son Cody Carpenter and his godson Daniel Davies. Reznor and Ross, meanwhile, recently scored the new PBS documentary series “The Vietnam War.”
