Chad Smith Sits in With Local Bands?!
So my dad actually brought this up to me the other day as a good subject to write about in my rock reports but I figured I would do a blog so you can all see pictures and video with the story!
One of my favorite drummers- Chad Smith of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, gave everyone a reason to love him even more after the laid back shenanigans he pulled last weekend. The Chili Peppers had a show in Grand Rapids at the Van Andel Arena on Sunday, and they arrived in town a day early. Well, Chad Smith being the cool dude he is, went to a couple bars in Downtown Grand Rapids and sat in with the local bands that were playing! In Flanagan’s Irish Pub he played a cover of “Under the Bridge” with the band, and then shortly after- strolled on over to Mojo’s Dueling Piano bar next door and jammed on the drums in there. One of the fans in the crowd of Flanagan’s caught video on their phone of the memorable act. Watch the video below!
In addition to this awesome stunt, there’s also some less fortunate news to share about the band. Frontman, Anthony Kiedis announced at their show last Sunday, that his father– Blackie Dammett, is dying. He asked the crowd to send love and good vibes his way in this very rough time. If you’ve followed the Chili Peppers through their years of musical growth like I have– you can understand that unfortunate sorrow.
