A couple months ago I asked you guys for your input on “Greasy Spoon” restaurants in Michigan. You had a lot of ideas. When I posted the list, a bunch of you suggested all sorts of other places.

So, here it goes…round two of the Greasy Spoon debate.

• Bates Burgers in Farmington Hills

  While on the fence as to if this qualifies for a “Greasy Spoon”. Let’s go with it from the suggestion of @jamesvader1212 on Twitter. He says they’re “Quick and easy. Their burgers are slider style with an incredible taste. Their crinkle fries are on point and so damn delicious and their chocolate shakes are still one of the BEST I’ve ever had in my life. I’ve been going for over 30 years. ❤️”

  Located in Livonia and Farmington Hills, Michigan, the Bates Family has been proudly running their restaurants since 1959!

• Earls Diner In Ferndale

  This suggestion came from Justin Able on Facebook. He says that this place is the best.

• Sawmill saloon in grand rapids

  Mary Hansen on Facebook highly recommends this place. “There is so much entertainment, very social and friendly, the food is always good and they keep improving the outdoor area out back that is complete with a fire pit, cornhole area and an outdoor pool table! Lots of pictures and memorabilia on the walls of bands that have played there as well as a ceiling full of dollar bills. It is our go-to place for fun!”

  Sawmill Saloon

  Sawmill Saloon is a quaint tavern and restaurant that has been operated by the Proctor family for over 50 years. Our favorites on the menu are Build Your Burger and Design a Dog. Activities include Open MIC every Wednesday, Team Trivia every Thursday, an outdoor pool table, darts, horseshoes, disc golf, and cornhole!

• The Starlite In Burton

  This sounds like the perfect place to go to after a show at the Machine Shop. @kids_dennis on Twitter said “No better greasy spoon, hands down. Gravy fries and the cheeseburger are best washed down with a Coca-Cola.”

• Roy's BBQ and Burgers in Milan

  Rich Anson on Facebook said this place was a favorite of his family. I may have to check it out next time I head down to the Milan Dragway!

• Travis Hamburgers in st. clair shores

  Dennis Metz on Facebook gave us this one. I believe a few people mentioned this one last time after I put out the last Greasy Spoon article. Dennis said “The place for some of the best burgers in Macomb! Get the sack when you need em!! Breakfast the way you like it! Goes great with some brews from Copper Hop brewery!”

• zorba's coney island

  Mark Kibby on Facebook gave us this one. One reason he cited is because “The place is packed after midnight every Friday and Saturday night.” Sounds like good eatin’ on the way home from the bar!

• J & S Hamburg Traverse City

  @backtothemovie on Twitter gave me several Greasy Spoons, but we’ll go with this one first. He stated that it’s community minded, with a great fish fry.

• Coachlight Restaurant marquette

  Also a suggestion from @backtothemovies on Twitter. He said they have “authentic waitresses”. I’m not really sure what that means, but it must be good!

• JR's Hometown Grill and pub

  I discovered there’s four locations for JR’s around the state. This one came to us from an out-of-stater. John Miszuk said “We are From New York and had to help a buddy pick up two Allis Chalmers tractors. While on the way the home we started to get hungry. We saw signs for Subway and McDonald’s, then Jr’s Hometown Grill. So we figured let’s go there cause it’s different. Good service and great food. Kinda sucks that it’s 6hrs away. I was blown away when we walked in and heard Charlie Daniels “Uneasy Rider 88″ on there radio. Hopefully we can make it back in the near future.” Great recommendation.

• McPherson Family Restaurant in Millington

  Elenya Brandt on Facebook sung this places praises.  “If you are headed mid state….Millington. Limited hours but this little gem is absolutely AMAZING. All home made food and bakery items. They make a family size cinnamon roll that is HUGE! And all locally sourced! Nothing fancy…just good old fashioned hearty food!”
