One of the most popular FourPlay at 4 themes I do is Cover Songs. You guys love them. There are some cover songs that have become so ingrained in the music world that we tend to forget they're a cover. Recently, Chris Daughtry and Lzzy Hale teamed up to cover the Journey song Separate Ways. I'm not a Journey fan, so that one won't make my list.

Metallica - Turn The Page

That may be sacrilege here in Detroit, but I think the boys did a great job covering the song and keeping the essence of what it's about. I'm sure Bob Seger agrees....and doesn't mind the check he receives from this cover. LOL

Johnny Cash - Hurt

Not only does Johnny turn this Nine Inch Nails songs into his own, the video is masterful. Chris Cornell agreed with me when it came up in a 2014 interview I had with him. He called the video "One of the best of all time". Recorded not long before Cash's death, this video encapsulates his life in a three minute video.

W.A.S.P. - The Real Me

I LOVE this ong and this version of it. Between Blackie's nasty vocals and the driving bass line, this song just cranks! I'm not much of a Who fan, but I do like this song a lot. I kind of a sucker for bass, and John Entwistle doesn't disappoint on the original either.

Stone Sour featuring Lzzy Hale - Gimme Shelter

Maybe my favorite Rolling Stones song, and I love the version that Stone Sour did. Lzzy Hale captures the raw female vocal parts, and there's not much that Corey taylor does that I don't like.....well, except cover The Summer of 69. Yuck.

Tesla - Little Suzi

I didn't even know this song was a cover until a couple years ago. Tesla made it there own for sure. Here's their version and the original, done by a band called PhD.

Judas Priest - The Green Manalishi (With the Two Pronged Crown)

Originally done Fleetwood Mac, Priest covered this one on their Killing Machine, which later renamed Hell Bent For Leather. This song is an absolute ripper....no pun intended.

Rage Against The Machine - Renegades Of Funk

A song from Afrika Bambaataa, this one is full on RATM>

Iron Maiden - Crossed Eyed Mary

Maiden took a Jethro Tull song and really cranked it up. Oh, don't forget that Tull won the first ever metal Grammy.

Type O Negative - Cinnamon Girl

Yes, Neil Young gave it to us first, but Type O brought it to another level. They did some killer covers, including Summer Breeze, Paranoid, and Pictures of Matchstick Men among others.

Disturbed - Shout

OK, I don't know if this is better than the original, but I love this song so I'm including it. This song appeared on the Tears For Fears album Songs From The Big Chair. A masterpiece, in my opinion.
