Stormstress is a vicious, American heavy metal power trio fronted by mirror twins from Detroit, guitarist Tanya Venom (PRS Pulse Artist) and bassist Tye Mayhem, who deliver dual lead vocals over the aggressive accompaniment of powerhouse drummer and backing vocalist from across the pond, Maddie May Scott. Creating a signature sound shaped by the drama of melodic metal and the fires of high octane hard rock laced with cathartic storytelling, “Stormstress presents a perfect balance of raw power and vocally orchestrated bliss,” (Geoff Wilbur’s Music Blog).
Stormstress was formed at Berklee College of Music in October of 2019. After releasing three well-received singles, the band announced their debut album “Silver Lining” (April 2022) in collaboration with producer Liz Borden (Lizzie Borden and the Axes). The album immediately saw international airplay and was nominated for Album of the Year 2022 by the New England Music Awards. Silver Lining has been described by critics as, “written and played with a level of expertise thought to be reserved for 20-year veterans” (Metal Zenith), and “impossible to ignore,” (Science of Rock). Stormstress’s extravagant live performance style, “an unrelenting storm of metal mayhem that needs to be experienced by everyone,” (Loud Hailer Magazine), landed the band on Music Connection Magazine’s Hot 100 Live Unsigned Bands list for 2022. The trio has had the honor of supporting heavy metal kings and queens such as Firehouse, Burning Witches, PLUSH, Liliac, and The Iron Maidens, and performed at the New England Music Hall of Fame 2023 Induction. Stormstress can also be seen in the Armenian-American documentary film, “We Thrive” (2023) about the healing powers of music in special regards to overcoming ancestral trauma. Stormstress’s latest chilling single, “Buried You in the Snow,” (March 2023) described by Geoff Wilbur’s Music Blog as, “a heart-wrenching and poetic song destined for these modern times,” is just a taste of what is still to come from this supercharged trio.
