Daytime shot from across the Detroit River taken from Canada of the Detroit Skyline.

Happy 313 Day!! Detroit offers a lot for a lot of people. I was down in Corktown yesterday talking with a younger officer. He hit the nail on the head when he said to me “The city has come a long way since I was born.” That’s true. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve brought friends from out of town to see the “D”. They’ve left with a new appreciation for the city. Yes, there’s still many issues, but the downtown experience has drastically improved in the last 20 years or so.

Here’s some of the places you must see when in the Motor City.

  • The LCA - Hockeytown

Yeah, the team hasn’t been great as of late, nor does the arena have that classic feel yet, but it’s beautiful. I recently went and watched a hockey game in Buffalo and it was a night and day difference betweens the two barns. Say what you will about the LCA – and it’s all legit – but that place is an all-in-one facility.

  • Ford Field

Once again, the product on the field hasn’t brought us too much to cheer about, but you can’t deny the atmosphere and the entertainment experience when you got to a game or other even there. Great venue!

  • The Detroit River Walk

Windsor is beautiful along the water, but so is Detroit now. Check this out.

  • The Joe Louis Fist

Nothing says Powerful more than the fist of Joe Louis. Many cities have statues, but not many have something like this.

  • Cobo/Huntington Place

Talk about a total transformation! This place has been reborn in the past 15 years. Just being there at Autorama last month was a fun filled event.

  • Bell Isle

I’ll be honest, I usually only see this gem on race weekend, but it’s a really nice place to visit from time to time.
